The Empty Arms ministry is dedicated to providing care ,council, and encouragement in a Christian setting to parents who have suffered through the death of their baby as a result of miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant death.

Empty Arms is a free, 8-week support group structured to meet the emotional needs of grieving parents.  This group meets once a week for 90 minutes of sharing and discussion. Each group is fascilitated by caring parents who have suffered the loss of a baby to miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.

Miracle Babies mission is to provide support and financial assistance to families with critically-ill newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; and to enhance the well-being of women, children and their families through education, prevention and medical care.

Miracle Babies’ overarching goals are to:

• Improve the health of all children, especially the vulnerable;
• Reduce the number of babies in the NICU;
• Drive families and communities to become healthier;
• Reduce childhood obesity and adult-onset chronic diseases; and
• Reduce the cost of healthcare.

We accomplish these goals by focusing on critical life stage windows where effective and targeted interventions can directly improve children’s and mothers’ long-term health: during pregnancy and the newborn period. Research clearly links the health of a mother to the future health of her baby, and a NICU baby’s access to breast milk and kangaroo care to improved health. By providing key resources to those who need them most—underserved pregnant mothers facing substantial barriers to health and babies in the NICU fighting for their lives—our organization plays a key role in improving children’s and community health.

OCWMG’s midwives, Lisa Sherwood or Melissa Alexander, will attend births in the comfort of The Women’s Hospital at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.  Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) are unique, nurturing health care professionals specializing in safe, alternative approaches to your birthing experience beginning with preconception care and family planning service and including prenatal and postpartum care. CNM’s also provide an array of primary healthcare services to women including annual gynecological exam and menopausal management.

Midwives offer a different approach for women who want a more individualized, less routine approach to childbirth than many traditional obstetricians provide. They see every pregnancy as a unique event and encourage you to consider your options for labor and delivery and to personalize your own birth plan. Midwives focus on developing a trusting relationship with their patients helping them to lean about physical and emotional changes during pregnancy. They will consider you an active participant in all aspects of your care. Midwifery care is hands-on care before, during and the birth of your baby.

OC Women’s Medical Group offers holistic care in a hospital setting.  They also accept most insurance plans.

Seeking a way to use her love of music to help and educate others, Board-Certified Music Therapist, Brianna Shaffer, MT-BC, NMT, received her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy with an emphasis in Piano Performance from Chapman University’s Conservatory of Music in 2009. Shortly thereafter, she was selected for a prestigious six-month internship and residency at MusicWorx, Inc., which partnered with Scripps Hospital in San Diego, CA. In April 2011, Brianna was honored with the Innovative Award from Ohio Choices for her ability to “build innovative relationships and supportive networks for youth with emotional or behavioral disabilities and their families.” In July of 2011, Brianna was selected to design and lead a music therapy program at a private school and clinic for children on the Autism spectrum, in Irvine, CA. The creation of this program provided Brianna with an opportunity to develop a complete music therapy curriculum that worked collaboratively with special education programs, as well as Speech, Behavioral, and Occupational therapies. Play Your Part, Inc. came to fruition in 2013 and serves Orange County, providing music therapy, music lessons, and group music classes to children of all ages. Most recently, Brianna became a mother to her son, Wesley in October 2015.
